Motion Design: Soul Crusher retro 8-bit video game
This motion graphic was created as part of a “digital set” for a stage performance at the New York Musical Theatre Festival. In this case, the “digital set” was a rear-projected video screen that appeared behind the actors during a musical number in which the characters play an old video game from the early 90’s. The on-screen content during the verses of the song is more detailed, while the visual during the choruses is understated so as not to detract from on-stage dance performance during those sections.
Provided only with the song, Tony created this entire motion graphic turn-key: designing the logo, creating the interface elements, mimicking game-play setup, 3D animation, illustration, and all compositing. The pixelated “8-bit” look was an intentional choice given the time setting for the musical.
